Advanced Diploma in

Teaching English
as a Second Language

(Dip. TESL)

In celebration of 15 years of training teachers to teach English abroad, Sunbridge Institute of English is pleased to offer a new online Advanced Diploma in Teaching English (Dip TESL).

A Certificate in TESOL, TEFL or CELTA will help you to find a teaching position but when it comes to a choice between two or more candidates vying for the same position, a Diploma in TESL is a step above other credentials. It indicates more comprehensive and well-rounded teacher training at all levels.

This new online TESL diploma represents a new level in ESL teacher training and a higher level of training for you. Schools will know they are hiring a well-trained, seasoned professional teacher or head teacher.

Apply your TESOL/TEFL/CELTA credits!

Graduates of our TESOL course may apply that course towards our prestigious new Advanced TESL Diploma.

If you have a TESOL/TEFL or CELTA certificate but it is not from Sunbridge, we will require a copy of the certificate and transcript to ensure it meets our standards. Other certificates must be earned through Sunbridge courses.

Requirements

To qualify, you must earn a total of twenty (24) credits as follows:

1. A TESOL, TEFL or CELTA Certificate course - 6 credits

If the certificate is not from Sunbridge, we will require a copy of the certificate and transcript to ensure it meets our standards.

2. Three additional Sunbridge certificate courses from the selection below. (3 cr. each= 9 credits)

a) Certificate Course in Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL)

b) Certificate Course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (TEFLA)

c) Certificate Course in Teaching Business English (TBE)

d) Certificate Course in Teaching English for Specific Purposes (TESP)

e) Certificate Course in Teaching Technical English (TTE) (Coming soon!)

These courses may be taken concurrently or consecutively in any order. There is no time limit set for completion of your diploma though we do recommend that you set a goal on your own. This will help you to keep on track. Let us know and we will recommend a schedule and help you to succeed in any way we can.

The Capstone Paper is a 3000 or more word summation of what you have learned from the four courses, personal teaching experiences and how you will apply this knowledge in your future career. It carries a value of 3 credits.

3. A minimum of 600 validated teaching hours. This may be tutoring or classroom hours. One year of teaching full time will easily add up to more than this. 6 credits will be given for your teaching experience.

Credits:

*TESOL Course = 6 cr

3 addl courses = 9 cr

Capstone paper = 3 cr

teaching hours = 6 cr

TOTAL CREDITS = 24

$1400 USD/CAD includes tuition for all four courses. Separately, tuition for each course is $375 (4 x 375 = $1500) so you save $100. Also included are course assessment, administration, shipping of certificates and diploma, and graduation fees. Textbooks are included unless so indicated in the individual courses.

* If your TESOL certificate is from another school, your tuition fee will be reduced to $1025. This is $1400 - 325. We assess a $25 administration fee for validating your certificate.
